Wight-Box Three Volume "Zine" Style Set (PDF Included)
Wight-Box: Rules for Fantastic Medieval Adventure Wargames
Wight-Box is a 0e clone that bridges the gap between the legendary 1974 "Little Brown Books" (3LBBS) and the mass combat rules of Chainmail.
Original 1974 play is often called "incomplete" or "full of holes," but the truth is that the answers were always there in the Chainmail rules. While this isn’t a 100% reconstruction of how Gary and Dave played in '73, it is a faithful, streamlined adaptation that brings the 3LBBs and Chainmail together into one cohesive, playable d20 system. It captures the true spirit of mid-70s gaming without the headache of cross-referencing three different manuals. The premium boxed set version of Wight-Box raised over $55k!
The "Zine Edition" Set
This isn't a mass-produced book. Each set is handcrafted and assembled by me (The Basic Expert) and designed specifically for use at the table. You get:
-
Three Handcrafted Booklets: Sized at 5.3" x 8" for easy handling. Each volume features a distinct color-coded cover (Red-Brown, Green, and Blue) with fun art done by me so you can grab what you need at a glance.
-
20 Physical Character Sheets: Printed and ready to hand out to your players.
-
The Digital Toolkit: Includes PDFs of all three volumes, a digital wilderness adventure hex map, a digital Referee Screen, and a printable PDF character sheet.
Volume 1: Heroes
Everything you need to step into the Wightlands. This volume covers character creation for the core classes: Fighting-Man, Magic-User, and Cleric. (The Thief is also included in an appendix for those who prefer them). You’ll also find full gear lists, hireling rules, and complete spell lists for both Magic-Users and Clerics.
Volume 2: Monsters & Loot
The Referee's best friend. This volume is packed with stats and abilities for foes both mundane and magical. It also contains the tables for treasure and magic items, including the legendary sentient swords, potions, and scrolls.
Volume 3: Adventuring
This volume covers the "how-to" of play: combat mechanics, wilderness exploration, dungeon crawling, and large-scale battles. I’ve also included dungeon generation tools and zero-prep oracles for solo play or for generating content on the fly at your table.
Wight-Box is everything you need to run games in the spirit of the 1970s, hand-bound, hand-trimmed, and ready for your table.
